One beautiful thing about living in the cyber-age is that people who share a common interest can socialize with each other, without having to look or smell or feign nice. The following are a few e-gatherings spots, available for meetings without having to change out of your pajamas.

* www.chinesepod.com: Learn Chinese through 5 minutes a day of podcasting at different levels of difficulty; interest groups and forums available for congratulating or commiserating on language successes and failures.

* www.communitycenter.cn : Non-profit center providing support for expats, through activities, classes, social events. No forums, but good info for a newbie to the city.

* groups.yahoo.com/group/ShanghaiMamas: A huge forum of expat moms (and some dads) who trade info and advice about everything parenting in Shanghai.

* www.shanghaiexpat.com: A general mix of expats living in Shanghai, with forums available for Q&A about everything from Restaurants to Legalities to Cat Answers.

* www.shanghai.asiaxpat.com: News and lots of ads fill the space here; a hotspot for buying and selling secondhand goods.

* www.smartshanghai.com: A Foodie and Music and Artist hangout with an online ticket service for events in town.
