Sports Clubs
Getting involved in sports in Shanghai has never been easier, with facilities and organizations ever more accessible. From sailing through football to hash house harriers, there is something for everyone. Often, getting involved in a sports team is the best way to get to know a new group of people and to let off steam, away from the stresses of everyday life in Shanghai’s packed offices.

Inner and outer

Wushu (Chinese martial arts) is often divided into neijian (internal forms) which focus on inner energy and are practiced mainly by the old and wajian (external forms) which concentrate on the physical body and are generally preferred by the young. Besides being common in the city’s parks, wushu is taught in kindergartens, schools, universities and in various studios throughout the city.
Shanghai has a government sponsored professional wushu team whose members are introduced to wushu by age 6 or 7 and are recruited for full time training in their early teens. Citywide and National wushu competitions are held in Shanghai a couple of times per year. Details are generally posted at the website of the Long Wu Kung Fu Center.
