The lowdown on the little ones' lives

If the thousands of posters, advertisements and proclamations for the 2010 Expo are to be believed, soon the streets of Shanghai will be filled by thousands of wide-eyed maniacs charging round aimlessly, shouting "Expo! Expo!" like frenzied children. Those anxious to experience this bizarre phenomenon in advance would do well to head down to the Shanghai Exhibition Center from March 28-29, where the inaugural Kidexpo Shanghai will be taking place.

With over 100 exhibitors and more than 15,000 expected visitors, Kidexpo promises to be the "perfect platform to show all the services related to kids' education and daily-lives." The show will be divided into five major areas, covering all aspects of childcare and entertainment. "Learn" will focus on building knowledge in schools and of the local area while "Be Safe & Healthy" covers nutrition, medical care and sporting activities. "Live Comfy" will showcase clothing, furniture and all those other expensive bits and bobs that keep the little-uns entertained for a day or two before they see the latest commercial. This year's event will also see the introduction of the "International Pavilion" designed to provide info on international schools and other expat-oriented services. Last but not least, the "Have Fun" area will focus on everything that keeps the family entertained, from toys to games and travel.

A wide range of both educational and fun activities will be on offer for parents and kids, with personal favourites including inflatable castles (presumably susceptible to bow and arrow attack), video games contests and a bug market. Everybody knows Shanghai is all about networking, and organizers World Events Agency are confident Kidexpo will provide invaluable opportunities for companies, schools, parents and childcare professionals to make new contacts. So for one weekend only, why not try handing over a business card splattered with face paint and jello rather than the alcohol-sodden ones you dish out in the French Concession every week?
