In the name of community creativity and spirit, that’s Shanghai is opening up one of its pages, and its website Urbanatomy.com, to the kids of the city. Each month, the pupils of a selected school will be invited to write a short piece of writing on a topic chosen by the that’s Shanghai editorial team. This month’s topic was ‘A Horror Story in Shanghai’ and the winner is Julia Zhang of the Livingston American School.

A middle-aged man was resting on a sofa, his tired but restless eyes shut tight. Startled by a rapping of knuckles he rose reluctantly and walked towards the door with a grumpy expression on his face.

“There’s no way that we’re going to wait for the murderous Black Blood to come to us, we have to go to him.” Ron pounded his fist on his hand. “We need to find him once and for all!”

Heading out into the lane, Jason sighed and took out a brown pipe. Lighting it up he felt a little more relaxed, and didn’t notice a black shadow behind him, a pair of evil eyes looking deadly at him. It moved closer and closer towards him with a sword clasped tightly in its hand.

“No one can get away from my sharp sword! You escaped from it twice, my little Jason. This time I will definitely kill you!”

There was a flash in Jason’s head, “Wait a minute, sword sharp as thunder, quick as lightning. You’re…”

Before Jason could finish, Black Blood had waved his sword. Jason could feel the blood on his forehead, moving down past the nose and mouth, down towards his neck. Soon, there was dark red blood dripping on the floor. Breathing rapidly he collapsed on the ground, and laid his back against the wall of the dead end. Black Blood grinned and knelt on the ground, looking straight into Jason’s eyes and held his fingers under Jason’s chin.

“Looks like I finally got something from you, eh Jason?”

Black Blood laughed in a shrill voice. Then he stood up from the ground and wiped the blood off his sword.

“I w… won’t l… let y… you get a… away…” Jason spoke the words with hatred, pulled out a gun and with his finger on the trigger, “… w… with this.” used his last breath to finish the words and let off a shot.

The next day, the front page of the newspaper made the citizens in Shanghai feel relieved. The famous murderer Black Blood had been caught. But a policeman was sacrificed – found dead in a lane. The neighbors had heard a shot and quickly called the police. Officer Ron got there just in time and caught Black Blood, but was too late to save Jason. Some say that Jason shot the gun to the sky to signal his friends, others say that Jason was trying to shoot at Black Blood but missed. It remains a mystery.
