When Boxing Cat Brewery opened their first branch in Minhang some time last year, we came to drink beer, and loved it (and still do). But secretly, we never really rated the food that much. So consider this review a re-match. At this point, the Cat has a 2-0 record. This is American-style food the way it should be done: meat, starch and cheese in healthy portions (read: George Foreman-sized portions). Don’t believe us? Try their fork-tender braised beef short ribs (RMB128) served over a bed of the best cheese grits in town. Silly name aside, Reuben the Almighty is a serious sandwich with truckloads of corned beef stacked between beautifully buttery toasted rye bread (RMB80). And a burger loaded up with grilled mushrooms, roasted onions and tomatoes, guacamole, cheddar and aioli is pretty close to being a masterpiece (RMB80) .One tiny complaint: the service staff can be a tad punch-drunk at times. Nevertheless, we’ll sure be back.
