She is the world-record holder, is ranked first in the world in the sprint and was the Olympic champion going into the games, and sure enough Wang Meng earned a second gold for China at the Winter Olympics, winning the women's 500 meters short track speed skating with ease.

She led all the way after surviving a restart and a false start in the four-woman final at Pacific Coliseum. The final was restarted after Canadian Jessica Gregg went down and her teammate Marianne St-Gelais followed in the first turn. After some ice repair, the women returned to the starting line. Then there was a false start. But Wang was as cool as ice throughout the delays.

She darted to the lead on the inside lane and stayed there the entire way. Crossing the finish line well ahead of her rivals, she stuck both her arms out then grabbed a Chinese flag and skated around the rink shouting, "Woo!" And why not...

In grabbing gold he eclipsed compatriot and namesake Wang Beixing, who could only manage bronze in the speed skating a day earlier. Those two take China's medal haul to four - two gold, a silver and a bronze - after a tripping Teuton helped the figure skaters to a first and second finish earlier in the week.

We'll keep you posted on further success, and have assessed the other medal hopefuls right here.

Zhongguo jia you!
