Shanghai Shooters were crowned Manila Champions 2009 as SIFL teams invaded the Philippines last weekend for the Manila International 7's tournament.

Shanghai Shooters won it, but they did it the hard way. On Saturday, they had to beat the Dutch Boys (South Africa) 5-0, and drew with 'Do It United' (Indonesia) 3-3 and Squadron (Hong Kong) 1-1. Meaning they made it through in 2nd place. The first time in 11 years they have not won their group.

On the Sunday, John Jofre (coach of 7's in Manila) had to make a few positional changes. As they finished 2nd in their group, it meant they were in the difficult half of the draw.

First up on Sunday was the Manila Nomads (Last years winners). Shooters beat them 2-0 with goals from Mikel and Chiba Jr.

Next up in Quarter Finals were Boracay Rangers (Scotland), Shooters them 5-0. Goals from Roland, Chiba Sr., Matt Sutton, and Jon Grant got a brace.

In the semi final, Shooters played the Semi Pro team from Manila, Kaya. the match was a 2-2 drwa, then in extra time Shooters scored the golden goal and won the match, goals from Roland Broughton and 2 from Chiba Sr.

In the final they beat French Dragons (Hong Kong), again by 2-2 draw and a golden goal win. With 2 goals from Chiba Sr. and old man Claus.

Amazingly, they played the semi final and final without Mikel Ubis and Jon Grant as they were both injured, and the final itself French Nick received an injury and had to come off.

Larry Langdon from Shanghai Shooters won Keeper of the Tournament and Claus Borregaard (ex coach and Shooters all star) won the Player of the Tournament.

For the other SIFL teams, Shanghai Les Bleus Lions lost in the round of 16 to the HK French Dragons, while Voodoo Child lost in the round of 16 to Digiprint (Philippines).

O'Malleys Oranje and Anzacs qualified for the Plate on the Sunday. Oranje lost in round of 16 to Hibs (Singapore) and Anzacs lost to Dutch Boys (South Africa) in the Quarters of the Plate competition.

In the Masters Tournament, the Shanghai Old Stars lost in the Final to Winking Boys (Bangkok).

A truly great performance from teams in the league who again show their domination around Asia.
