Monday, 12 April 2010 10:04 Written by Gene Gao Shenhua FC veteran and celebrity Football is oxygen. I long for the days when I used to play professionally I wear a number 45 shirt, but in fact I prefer wearing a number 20 shirt. Because I was 20 when I entered the league and the number on my shirt was also 20. I began playing football when I was seven My role as a media officer for Shenhua should be as the bridge between the team, the players and the public. I would work for AC Milan even if I had to be a ball boy. In Europe, I experienced real football in a way that I never had before. I realized that Chinese football had a long way to go. I love football because it’s a cosmopolitan sport with a long history. If I could live anywhere, I’d choose Italy, just because I love the food and fashion so much. A dark horse doesn’t often win the World Cup. I think Spain is in with a good chance. Women’s football is very amateurish. Football is a more masculine sport. My all-time hero is Gabriel Batistuta because I like his playing style, his loyalty and his temperament. I don’t have a specific plan for this year, but I’ll be content if I can live a happy life and have plenty of football games to watch. Add comment (0)

Friday, 18 December 2009 10:12 Written by El Presidente Amigos, Amigas and Santa. To be honest it's rather easy to organize a soccer tournament during the Shanghai summer of as you are more or less guaranteed perfect weather and everybody loves to play football under the sun in a nice summer breeze. To get a Santa Cup organized is a different ball game all together as you never know what the conditions will be and when its freezing cold how do you know that the players will still turn up to play?

Thursday, 24 September 2009 07:09 Written by Cordelia O'Hare Founded in back in 2003, the Shanghai Premier League is the United Nations of football in China, and the 09/10 season is about to kick off. Teams hailing from around the globe have been practising in tournaments and friendly matches recently. Players are slowly and (hopefully) surely returning to peek physical fitness in time for their first matches, just after the October holiday. The SPL returns this season with more matches, more teams and a match ground in such good condition it took two years to reach this pinnacle of pitch perfectness (thanks to Adam).* The referees have been sent for training to Urumuqi so they will be on top of every game and a FA licensed ref has requested the honour of blowing the whistle at the season’s kick off. In short, things are bigger and better all around and it’s set to be a fantastic season. Need a team to play for? Want to be a cheerleader on the sidelines but don’t know any teams? Browse away below and find your SPL team for 2009/10. The deadline for player fee payments isn’t until 15th November – plenty of time shop around! *As such, slide tacking will be frowned upon. |
