Francesco and Edoardo Molinari became the first brother combination to win the OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup at Mission Hills in Shenzhen, giving Italy its first title in the team event with a one-stroke victory over Sweden and Ireland on Sunday.

The Molinaris closed with a 4-under 68 in the alternate-shot final round on Mission Hills' Olazabal Course. They finished at 29 under and earned $875,000 each in the tournament that featured two rounds of better ball and two of alternate shot.

Francesco hit a long greenside bunker shot to 3 feet on the 18th to set up Edoardo's winning par putt.

Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy fully justified their pre-tournament favorite status on the opening day of the OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup down in Shenzhen with a sensational fourball score of 14-under 58 over the Olazábal Course at Mission Hills Golf Club.

That remarkable effort that included 12 birdies and an eagle saw Team Ireland soar into a three-stroke lead over Argentina, with Japan a further stroke back at 10 under.

Italy, Canada, Korea and defending champions Sweden share fourth place after opening scores of 64, while host nation China produced a 65 to share eighth place with South Africa.

Phil Mickelson wins day of thrills and spills by a shot from Ernie Els as Tiger Woods chokes

To say that the last day of the WGC-HSBC Champions did not pan out as anticipated was something of an understatement.

Though the expectation was that Phil Mickelson, the overnight leader on 14 under par, would have the mother and father of all battles with Tiger Woods, the World No 1 tumbled from the leader-board and Mickelson ended up winning by a shot from Ernie Els.

In tacking a 69 to earlier scores of 69, 66 and 67, he finished at 17 under to Els’ 16 under. Ryan Moore closed on 15 under with the 20-year-old Rory McIlroy seizing fourth place on 14 under.

Phil Mickelson has thriller of two two-shot lead over Tiger Woods and Nick Watney to set up a golf fan's dream showdown

What an afternoon for the spectators at the WGC-HSBC Champions as Tiger Woods, the World No. 1, and Phil Mickelson, the No. 2, spent much of the third round jostling for position at the top of the leader-board.

In the end, Mickelson had the edge, finishing on 14 under as against the 12 under of Woods and Nick Watney, the half-way leaders.

Now, in what is the perfect scenario, Mickelson and Woods - along with Watney – are out together for the last lap. “It’s the dream final round,” said Giles Morgan, HSBC’s Group Head of Sponsorship.

Tiger Woods has joined Nick Watney at the top of the leader-board at the half-way stage of the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions at Sheshan.

The two are ten under par, with Woods having handed in a second-round 67 to Watney’s 70.

Such a state of affairs had seemed unlikely when the World No 1 fluffed his approach into a bunker’s grassy bank at the 288 yards 16th.
