The Shanghai Hockey Club, founded in 2004 by a Swiss man, Marcus Benz, is a volunteer organization run by ice hockey addicts from all corners of the globe. The SHC ratified it's own constitution in September of 2009 and the goals of the club are to play hockey, be competitive and have fun. All players, sexes and skill levels are welcome and we have more than 100 players from China, Canada, Sweden, Russia, Latvia, USA, France, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany.

There are three ice times per week during the hockey season with Tuesdays and Thursdays being "shinny" (a non-competitive free flowing practice/game) and Friday/Saturday nights being league games.  Players may play either shinny or league or both. Malone’s on Tongren Lu provides bus transportation to all ice sessions for players and spectators. The thrice-weekly bus ride usually involves friendly banter, free beer and pre-recorded ice hockey games playing on the bus TV. Tuesday and Thursday bus leaves at 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday bus leaves at 7pm.

The organization sends teams to compete in various domestic and international tournaments in Shenyang, Beijing, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Dubai, Manila, Mongolia, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea (both North and South) and more.

The league currently plays in a full-sized year-round professional quality rink in Songjiang University Town (1 hour bus ride from downtown), complete with showers, equipment storage and seating for 2000 rowdy hockey fans.

Are you a great skater? Have you played competitive hockey?

Would you like to play competitive games against teams from all over Asia?

The Red Guard, an ice hockey team made up mainly of kids aged between the ages of 11 and 15, is on the hunt for new recruits. Although the team is mainly ex-pat kids at the moment, they would love some Chinese skaters to join them too. The Red Guard train on Wednesday nights up at the Champion Rink in Balian Mall (N. Puxi) and on Saturday and Sunday mornings at the rink in Songjiang (University Town.) They regularly play teams from Beijing, Harbin and Taipei, and when they can, try to play teams from Hong Kong and Korea.  Come and skate with the team this month for free! For more information, please contact Carolyn Kwant: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
