In fact, the friend that introduced me to this restaurant has been eating here for ages and still gets lost after a few too many beers. But clearly locals and poor overseas students have no trouble finding it, because the place is consistently packed with them. If you can brave a slightly dingy decor and perpetually grease-covered floor, you'll be rewarded with an unbelievably cheap and delicious meal. I'm talking six big bottles of Tsingtao and untold amounts of vegetables and meats shared between four people for only RMB35 per person. Don't miss their laobanqiu (loosely translated 'boss' balls, RMB5). These tasty precooked meatballs are mixed with veggies for an extra crunchy texture. Then, of course, you can't miss their thinly sliced raw beef--a hotpot standard (RMB15). And don't forget to order a side of peanut tofu sauce (RMB2). Most importantly, after you leave, don't forget to ask the cheerful owner to write down the address on a slip of paper for you, because after all that cheap beer, you will forget where this place is.
