Japanese teenage golfing sensation Ryo Ishikawa will participate in the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament.

The 18-year-old was due to play in a Japanese Tour event that runs parallel to the November 5-8 feature, but has been given the go-ahead by his sponsors to join the star-studded line-up at the Sheshan International.

The US$7m event, which will be headed by world number one Tiger Woods, has been included as part of the World Golf Championship list of events for the first time this year.

Ishikawa, who turned professional last year, became eligible for the event by winning the Tokai Classic earlier this month, his fourth title of the year and sixth overall, putting him at the top of the Japanese money rankings. He has played three majors this year, missing the cut at the Masters and the British Open and finishing tied for 56th at the U.S. PGA Championship. However, at 18, he is the hottest new prospect in Asia. And Shanghai is a real chance for him to show the Asian crowd wh yhe is rated so highly.

"The prize money will be huge and it will be a high-level fight," he said. "I am looking forward to seeing how much I can do out there."
