Since their opening in 1994, they have sold just over a quarter of a million hamburgers--756,000, to be exact (and we presume they're still counting). Depending on one's accounting methods this figure could very well be too low as it doesn't count burgers sold in catering, events, or in any of their other stores; they're only counting their Tongren Lu branch. When we asked if they'd calculated how many cows selflessly gave their lives to this noblest of causes, Marketing and Entertainment Director Paul Granville quipped, "No we haven't! Scary! The veggies would surely put a Fatwa on our heads!" Malone's projects that they'll sell their millionth burger by 2014. Not bad for a burger joint in Shanghai. Eat your heart out, Ray Kroc!
