Where to go to get your Thanksgiving turkey

Let's face it, the Shanghai kitchen is ill-equipped for the upcoming American gorgefest we call Thanksgiving. It's a little tricky roasting a turkey to succulent perfection in a wok or a bamboo steamer. But fret not, dear readers, no Shanghairen will go without their favorite chestnut stuffing, pumpkin pie or roasted sweet potatoes this year. If you’re eating in or dining out, we’ve found the best birds in town for you.

White Lotus Foods
Soup and bread starter, a fat turkey with stuffing, sauces and lip-smacking seven side dishes and traditional pumpkin pie for dessert. Plus a complimentary hamper, including ale, wine, tea and coffee for the first 30 orders. The package serves 6-8 people and will set you back RMB1280.

Fountain Bistro
Traditional whole roasted turkeys are available for takeaway with chestnut, apple, bacon and herb stuffing as well as all the trimmings (RMB 880 serves 6 officially - although with these generous portions we can vouch there will be plenty of leftovers to pick at!). Available from November 20-29. Order before November 18 for a complimentary bottle of Beringer Chardonnay.

Malone`s American Cafe
Malone’s has a lavish set dinner for small and large groups. Tables of ten or more will be given a whole turkey and honey roasted ham to carve up for themselves, while smaller tables will have their Thanksgiving meals plated. Dinner costs RMB300 per person and includes a three course feast with all the trimmings and sides you can handle. There is also a large private room with its own on-site chef for parties of 30 or more at Tongren Lu and Thumb Plaza. If you would rather stay in, Malone’s will also be cooking up turkeys and stuffing with gravy plus Honey Roast Hams to takeaway (RMB800 each).

Mesa
For a fine dining Thanksgiving in the heart of the French Concession, Mesa is serving a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings from 6-11 pm. Food will be served ‘family style’ at private tables at individual tables (RMB 288 for adults and RMB 80 for children under 12). Reservation required.

New Heights
Enjoy your traditional festive meal with a contemporary European edge at New Heights while taking in the Lujiazui skyline. Feast away on your Thanksgiving favorites, such as turkey and mash with pecan pie to follow. RMB 338 per person.

Party On Catering
Party On Catering is teaming up with the Howard Johnson hotel this year to bring dinner to your door. Numbers aren’t a problem as they're happy to cater for small gatherings as well as full-blown functions. There's also a 15 percent discount for orders placed 14 days in advance and for all returning customers. RMB 980 gets you a roasted turkey (6-6.5 kg serving 10 ppl) with gravy and  cranberry sauce. There's also maple glazed boned ham (12 ppl, RMB 950), and roasted beef strip loin (1kg, RMB 659) as  well as all the trimmings - chestnut stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes, creamed green beans, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and much more.

Sasha’s
Relax over a four course Thanksgiving dinner featuring grilled riblets, roasted squash soup, roasted turkey with herb glaze and chardonnay gravy, cornbread-apricot dressing with fresh rosemary and pumpkin pie with Bailey's creme fraiche. RMB380 per person. Takeaway turkeys are also available (RMB1950), order two days in advance.

Hongqiao Marriott Hotel
This Thanksgiving buffet offers a traditional roasted turkey, pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes as well as a complimentary glass of eggnog or mulled wine. (RMB 388 per person + 15 percent and RMB 198 for children aged 6-12 +15 percent).

Renaissance Hotel, Hongqiao
Eat as much turkey and stuffing as you can between 11am-2.30pm or 6-10pm (RMB 258 per person +15 percent).  The menu includes your traditional turkey dinner and pumpkin pie as well as seafood chowder and free-flow beer.

JW Marriott Hotel, Tomorrow Square
The Marriot is doing a seasonal offer of turkey-to-go along with all the trimmings, gravy and vegetables at RMB 888 for a 5 to 7 kilo turkey (6 to 10 guests) and RMB1188 for 7 to 9 kilo turkey (up to 15 guests).

Hilton Hotel
The Atrium Cafe plays homage to this glorious American tradition with buffet tables laden with Thanksgiving dinner treats. Dinner is served on the eve of Thanksgiving - Wednesday 25 November (RMB 342 +15 percent per person).

The Gourmet Corner at the Hilton is also offering take-away Thanksgiving delicacies, such as roast turkey, sweet potato pie, and pumpkin cheese cake. From November 23-27.

Bubba’s Texas BBQ
Bubba’s is serving up a Thanksgiving buffet of apple wood-smoked USDA turkey. RMB250 gets you turkey, southwest style gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetable casserole, homemade rolls, cornbread stuffing, and a complementary drink of your choice. There are two seatings: 5 pm and 8 pm.

Maya
Maya is offering a three course set menu dinner with a Mexican twist like pumpkin soup with chorizo and roasted pepita, turkey with mole-style gravy, chipotle cream corn mashed potatoes. Perfect if you fancy spicing up your Thanksgiving feast. RMB300 per person with selected drinks included.

Boxing Cat Brewery, Fuxing Lu
Boxing Cat is offering turkeys to go with apple cider givlet gravy and jalapeno cornbread stuffing for RMB988. RMB1188 gets you all that and cranberry relish, mashed potatoes and maple spiced roast sweet potatoes. Depending on which package you get, you this can feed about 10-15 people. You can also dine in for RMB425 (adults), RMB150(kids). This includes freeflow Boxing Cat Brews, so bring your drinking boots.

Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse
Have a 'Down Home' Thanksgiving with all the trimmings at Pinnacle Peak. Dinner will include rosemary roasted turkey with stuffing, mashed heirloom potatoes, roasted butternut squash, and triple cranberry sauce. For diehard steak lovers, their award winning grilled steak will also be available for RMB238 per person and RMB80 for kids. There will be two sittings: one at 6pm and one at 9pm. In keeping with seasonal tradition, there will also be Thanksgiving 'leftovers' served on Friday, November 27.
